Remarks:
In this sculpture, copper hemispheres are mounted atop brass tubes, which in turn are affixed to a piece of found wood. The combination of materials—metallic warmth against organic texture—creates a striking visual contrast. The copper and brass elements, arranged in a clustered formation, evoke the natural growth pattern of mushrooms, suggesting a delicate yet persistent life emerging from the wood.
The sculpture is a meditation on the passage of time and the transformative processes of decay. The found wood, once whole and living, now bears the marks of age and decomposition. The metallic “mushrooms” rising from its surface represent the future trajectory of this material, hinting at how nature reclaims and transforms organic matter. In this way, the piece balances a sense of fragility and resilience, capturing both the inevitability of decay and the quiet beauty of regenerative cycles.
The interplay of textures—the rough, weathered surface of the wood with the polished, reflective metals—invites viewers to contemplate the relationship between permanence and impermanence, between human-crafted forms and natural processes. Through this work, the sculpture transforms a simple piece of found wood into a narrative of life, death, and renewal.
