Year: 2018
Dimensions: 17"H x 10 "W x 3"D
Materials: metal, motors, electronics
Remarks: Two groups of motor driven music box mechanisms play in an asynchronous competition that is activated by the large white button. There are four music boxes in each group, all of which play Pachelbel's "Canon in D." The sequences build up in layering and have a variety of timing. This sculpture utilizes musical rounds to challenge the viewer to think about the juxtaposition of the conventional idea of a canon versus interrupting musical voices, which result in a chaotic sound.
