About

Artist Statement

The influence of music has had a deep impact on my fine art practice. My mother taught classical string instruments out of our home. There is an exploration of the relationship of music and math in each of my bodies of artwork. My wood and metal sculptures explore the juxtaposition of organic and geometric form and asymmetry. My electronic and kinetic artworks explore the beauty of geometric forms and symmetry. The electronic and kinetic artworks often involve random and chaotic sounds and motion, with the goal of defining chaos and making it understandable.

Both bodies of artwork strive to be meditative objects. The wood and metal sculptures actualize this through a harmony of fabricated components with found wood. The electronic and kinetic artworks perform rhythmic events that can be subtle or overwhelming, creating a focus for awareness.

My sculptures address the perception of time. The wood and metal sculptures reflect the process that formed the wood or the future state of the wood. In other words, the metal elements in these sculptures represent the force that created or will create the wood. The electronic and kinetic artworks reference memory and nostalgia through the combination of motion, sound, and form.
