Large parts of the County of Sunndi were once ruled by the Aerdian Empire, including the capitol of Pitchfield itself. Humans had settled in the Rieuwood and beyond, pushing the elves out, or even enslaving some of them. However, these humans found that the lands they attempted to settle, actually insidiously settled them. The elves fought back – at first subtly and then overtly. An ongoing rebellion that lasted for centuries among the Sunndi elves was finally able to push the forces of the Overkings and his Herzog out of their traditional territory.

Human settlers that were a part of this wave of conquest actually helped the elves to break away from Aerdi and her Overkings. The leader of the Sunndi elves has always been a great wizard said to be tied to the magic of the land and its enchanted nature. It is thought that the human settlers were enspelled by the strange magic of the elves and became willing slaves. Some humans were recaptured and repatriated into Ahlissa, or Aerdy and there are extensive studies concerning the state of their minds after being taken from Elven lands. Some could be salvaged, many could not.

The ancient gray elves established their citadel at Pitchfield and are said to have built great magical and beautiful structures there and kept many human slaves and their families to serve their needs and faerie-natured whims. They used the wild elves and the enchanted denizens of the Rieuwood to protect their borders, which they closed to future human traffic of any nature.

Now, the winds of war blow again and the Herzog of Ahlissa has staked his fortune, reputation, and life on destroying Sunndi, the Iron League, and the Dwarves of the Glorioles. This has put the former adversaries of the Sunndian elves and the Dwarves of the Glorioles in an uncomfortable position of a common enemy. While their disdain for each other has not ceased, they have set aside their squabbles to face the common threat of the Great Kingdom. But even combined, there is little hope of these demi-races turning back the mighty army that is being assembled in Ahlissa.
