As a Project Management Professional (PMP) I have had an opportunity to work with great people on several very exciting projects that I would like to share. Each project posed a unique challenge and afforded me the chance to use different skills. A project manager is responsible for many things. Here are a few things that I have learned as I have worked on projects over the years.
I learned to:
Schedule and facilitate project planning either face-to-face or via WebEx.
Consistently acknowledge and appreciate each team member's contributions while effectively utilizing their skills to the fullest potential.
Communicate effectively with the executive staff and clients to identify needs and evaluate business alternatives.
Create and execute project work plans and revise them to meet changing needs and requirements.
Facilitate team and client meetings effectively; Tactfully communicate difficult/sensitive information at the appropriate time.
Effectively communicate relevant project information to superiors.
Operations keeps the lights on, strategy provides a light at the end of the tunnel, but project management is the train engine that moves the organization forward..
