Beginning Sunday, May 1, 2018, John Sheahan stepped in as Lay Minister at Bergen Lutheran Church.
John had considered ordained ministry following his retirement from his position of Principal at Roland-Story Middle School and when Pastor Starrett accepted another call, John presented a transitional plan for Bergen. His plan included providing services of administration, involvement with congregational council and committees, visitations, working with the congregation to establish goals and objectives, and providing worship leadership. John is currently attending seminary.
Bergen council and members are appreciative for this plan and the leadership and experience John brings with him. He currently serves as Choir Director at Bergen, Sunday School teacher, has served on council and worship committee, and participated in doing children’s sermons. He has served in other various positions also, a favorite is Auctioneer at our basket auctions, where his quick wit shines.
John and his wife Leigh live in Roland, and their family includes Jordan, Lizz and Myles Sheahan (Iowa Falls); Jacob and Jens Sheahan (Story City), and Ali Sheahan (UNI).
The Bergen Lutheran Church called John Sheahan to be Pastor on July 19, 2020. John was ordained into the Ministry of Word of Sacrament and installed as Pastor for Bergen Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 15, 2020.
Thank you, John, from the Bergen family. We are blessed to have you leading us in your ministry. To God be the Glory!
