First Bergen - built in 1874
The first Bergen Church was built on the SE corner of Michael Hegland's
farm at a cost of $6,000. 109 men (plus families) became the
Charter Members of Bergen Lutheran Congregation. For many years
"First" Bergen was the largest auditorium in Story County.

The firm of Vorse, Kraetsch & Kraetsch of Des Moines, Iowa were chosen as architects.

The bare ground in the foreground is where First Bergen was moved while the new church was being built. The new Bergen Church was built for a cost of $92,218.43 (included church, parish house, organ and furnishings).
