Anna

Anna Shaw (1830–1905) married Robert Romer Younghusand (1819-1905) in Bath in 1869

Thirteen years earlier Anna’s sister, Clara Jane, had married Robert Romer Younghusband’s brother, John William Younghusband.

General Robert Romer Younghusand was the son of Major General Charles Younghusband RA and Frances Romer. Younghusbands were an established Northumberland family. Robert Romer was one of five sons, all of whom were army officers. Fifty years old when they married he was not a young husband for Anna; she was his second wife. He had nine children with his first wife and then he and Anna had two children.

In retirement Anna and Robert lived in Clifton, Bristol.

1. Ernest Robert Younghusband (1870-1914) was a clergyman. In 1895 he was curate at St Matthias, Earls Court. He died in Cork and is buried in Freshford, a village near Bath.

2. Oswald Younghusband (1872-1943) was also a clergyman. He was founder of the Younghusband Collegiate Hostel in Lahore. The aim was to enable British and Anglo Indian boys to be educated in India. In a Rotary Club address in 1923 Rev Oswald Younghusband reported that 23,000 British boys were being educated in India. Most parents could not afford to send their sons back to the UK for their education. The report of his speech did not refer to educational opportunities for British girls in India.

Rev Oswald Younghusband was unmarried. In 1939 he was retired and living in Bristol. He died in Brislington House, Bristol.
