There are whispers about a group, that has never been proven to exist, called The Theatre. They are said to offer the powerful the opportunity to do just about anything their heart desires. There are people out there who claim to have had encounters with Cast or Crew, or have claimed they're Patrons of the Theatre, but it's always someone who knows someone who heard the story. They hide their tracks well because what they do is considered, at the very least, immoral.
The Theatre is an underground organization that is using people for its own purposes. Ostensibly, The Theatre offers certain people the ability to make money while helping to change their lives, or the lives of others. The Theatre offers an escape from problems, and provides ways to fix issues with the law, emotions, families, and finances, all for a temporary contract that allows the person to take a short vacation from their lives. They become the wards of The Theatre, either as Cast or Crew, and spend the majority of their time as someone not themselves with rare exceptions. Their memories are wiped and they are set to a base skill group that is bland and simple and are taken for "Spa Days" to either set them to the needed skills for their next jobs, or to get them back to a resting state.
The Theatre spans the known universe and offers some very specific and exclusive services to those that can pass a background investigation and can pay. They own Starliners, actual Theatres, and many other types of property that house and care for their staff. There are distinct roles in the organization. Each particular branch has a Director, Producers, Cast Members, and Crew. The Theatre Patrons can visit any locale they want, provided they have the credits to afford whatever it is they're asking for. Any time a Patron hires Cast or Crew, the activity is called Production.
The Theatre has the ability to, for lack of a better term, program people to be whatever the Patron wants. A lady wants a strong, silent type to be on her arm for a particular evening, she can hire him. A man wants a boyfriend for the night that is everything he could ever desire, he can have him. Someone needs a bodyguard that is discrete, she can be provided as arm candy, or a friend.
Some limits to their ability to change people are Magical skills and Psionics. Magic can't be changed, removed, or adjusted at all, and is always present. The memory of the ability, and how to use it can be temporarily wiped, but the skill can still be re-awakened. With psionics, the skills can be modified or changed, or as with magic, temporarily forgotten, but the natural skill is still there and can be touched on.
A member of the Cast or Crew can have their entire skill set changed for the course of a production - within limitations, and their underlying attributes can also be buffed or de-buffed as needed.
Theatre Patrons are often the Elite of the surviving humans, and of other Worlds. They can be from any walk of life, just as long as they have the money they need to buy their way in after a thorough vetting process. The vetting process includes a thorough background check, which includes getting into databases that most don't know either exist, or that The Theatre can access. They dig through files, through the persons personal life, businesses, etc. Looking for anything that might make the patron a higher risk. Most with the money to play at The Theatre are able to gain access, but will simply always pay more than a counterpart that is less of a risk factor.
Patrons are people with influence, power, and an overabundance of funds. Often bored with their current life, or seeking something new and exciting. Whether that's a date with a famous actress, an extreme adventure with adrenaline pumping activities and a handsome man by their side, or a guide through the seedier sides of the world. It all depends on what you're looking for and there are a number of Actors, Actresses, Models, and the like from Earth That Was who are here now because they joined The Theatre hoping for a way out.
Once the Theatre Patron is completely vetted they are given special designation in Theatre files, and presented with a token to allow them access to the Theatre Halls. Whether the Theatre Hall is a building, a ship, or an online access point your chip has to be able to be verified. After a Patron has been vetted and had three successful Productions they can also recommend to the Directors that someone be considered as a Patron.
Patrons can be exiled from The Theatre for various reasons, including but not limited to:
Causing undue harm to a Cast or Crew Member - Any risk that wasn't approved before the event that Patrons hire for that ends up causing harm to the Cast or Crew will result in a suspension. Repeat offenders are Exiled from The Theatre.
Chip Loss - If you lose your chip it's a strike against you and results in a temporary ban from hiring out anyone from the Theatres for a period of 6 months. If you lose your chip a second time you are permanently exiled.
If the person you recommend to The Theatre is banned before their first three Events are completed the sponsoring Patron runs the risk of being exiled with them. Depending on the severity of the reason the recommended Patron could either receive a temporary ban, or permanent Exile
Exile may be more than a simple ban on accessing The Theatre. Depending on the severity of the offences and if it happened during an Event, it could mean that the Patron winds up unable to even remember The Theatre, as the guardians of The Theatre will have them wiped. If a Patron cannot have their memory of The Theatre wiped for whatever reason, there have been Patrons known to go missing, become Cast or Crew themselves, or even be found the victim of an unfortunate accident. None of these things can be traced back to The Theatre at all, and even fellow Patrons may not be aware of what really happened after an Exile, though there are rumors.
Director: The head of an individual Theatre Branch. Responsible for accepting new Producers, Cast, and Crew, vetting Patrons, and setting up the individual orders of the Patrons, and matching them to the right Cast or Crew member for the job.
Stage Managers: Handlers for the Cast and Crew. The people who make sure the Patrons return the person they hired from the Theatre, and for ensuring the Cast and Crew get back home safe. They also make sure that each Cast or Crew gets their "spa day" after a job.
Cast: The members of the theatre that are hired out for public facing jobs. Dates, performances, eye candy, public events and the like. The ones that are able to do formal dinners and dancing with the president, or movie premiers, etc. While they can also act as Crew, they are normally not hired for that role.
Crew: The more down and dirty roles of the theatre. People who primarily do the wet work. Something needs to be stolen, they do it. Someone needs extorted, they get the information. Anything less than up and up is handled by the Crew for the most part. In order to hire someone from the Crew the Patron must go through a rigorous vetting process, and the job must be discussed in detail with the Director.
If you want to create a character for The Theatre you must speak to the Administrator or GM Vyxen. A copy of your base character sheet will be kept on file and kept up to date with existing XP and skill totals so that your character can be reverted back to normal after each job.
Character sheets must have a screenshot taken by a GM before any changes are made and must be restored after the session or mission that the character is on. Any XP will be kept track of with regular updates to the copied character sheet.
Any changes are not permanent and the character must have a “spa day” to be set back to normal.
No Attribute or Skill can be buffed or de-buffed by more than 10 points.
Total Attribute Points must stay within 15 points of the base character's Attribute Point Total.
Total Skill Points must stay within 25 points of the base character's Skill Point Total.
As stated above - Magical and Psionic skills are still accessible and cannot be completely removed from the character sheet. If they are being replaced or repressed the magical or Psionic skill and its original value must be listed in the “Personal Skill” section.
