EE
This is the concluding interview with your supervisor. It is a chance to reflect on both how you have developed as a learner and also what you have learned about the topic you have covered. Sometimes extended essays are used as part of an interview process for university education and the viva can then be used as a practice run for that interview. It can be used as a final point to check on plagiarism although bear in mind that it will be too late to adjust your essay as the viva takes place after final submission of the essay.
Before the meeting you should read your copy of the essay again and prepare a few notes for the meeting by answering these guiding questions:
What have I learnt about my chosen topic?
What unanswered questions remain?
How has my understanding how to conduct research developed throughout the task?
What have been the high and low points of the research and writing process?
What skills have I developed and how might I use these in the future?
What have I discovered about myself as a learner and how might this help me in my future?
Your supervisor will also have read the essay again and will come armed with comments and questions. Make sure you enjoy this final chance to discuss something that has been your baby for the last six months!
Your supervisor will give you a predicted grade for the essay in the grades section. This is useful information for the IB assessment centre in Cardiff. They will also complete the supervisor report section of the extended essay cover sheet and pass the whole essay with the cover sheet to the IB coordinator. Once this happens you can forget about the EE and carry on with other coursework assignments.
