Flight Planner

Flight Planner

Below is a flight planner spreadsheet I made (in MS Excel format) to save time in flight planning. It's format is similar to the ASA Flight Planner sheet. When you are done filling it out, you can print it out and use it as your flight plan. When I created it, my plan was to do just that. However, now I just copy the data onto the ASA Flight Planner sheet because that works better for me. Later, I might simplify my spreadsheet and also set it up to calculate true airspeed.

The spreadsheet calculates the wind correction angle, ground speed, fuel used, time en route and other math associated with the E6B flight computer. You have to supply true airspeed, flight distance and direction from the chart, winds aloft, magnetic variation & deviation and fuel burn rate. I've also added the feature of only allowing the user to enter data in the required fields. That was to keep me from accidentally erasing the formulas in the other fields. If you want to change that, you need only "unprotect" the worksheet. No password is required to do that. If you find this spreadsheet useful, please send me a donation in any amount you feel is appropriate. It takes a lot of time and effort to make things like this and to debug them.

Disclaimer: The purpose of this spreadsheet is to automate the calculations for flight planning and not to alleviate the pilot's responsibility to use good judgment at all times. I have done everything reasonable to make sure this works properly and I've used it many times myself without incident. If you are downloading this, you accept that you are responsible for how you use it.
