Cat Paintings by George

The cat paintings came about as a result of having to baby sit our daughter's two cats while she traveled. The gray tabby really has only one eye, due to an injury before he was acquired. He is always immediately very friendly to people but I have found that he has a dark side manifested in an unexpected bite when you least expect it.

There are a total of 34 paintings in the series. Six have sold, 10 have been in  juried exhibitions, some have been given to our children and the remaining 25 are available for exhibit as a show called "The Adventures of the Calico Queen and One Eyed Silver Devil". Sometime in the future, there may be new additions to this series.

The Calico Queen does have a regal presence about her and while she is slow to warm up to people, once she does, she can be very affectionate. After a few months with them and making a few drawings, I decided I wanted to depict them in a series of paintings. I had been painting the flowered figures series and the interest in patterned areas in a painting was still strong. I thought I would try the cats placed in patterned or textured areas and many of the paintings use Persian rugs as a setting. We don't have all those rugs. I simply used patterns I found in catalogs.
