Figure Paintings by George

After a number of years of figure drawing, I decided that I wanted to use some of the drawings as a basis for paintings. One day, while playing around with some collage ideas, I hit upon this idea of first printing photos of real flowers on the computer. Then, I took one photo, blanked out the background and repeated it over and over on a sheet and printed it on my printer. (See the first "Flowered Elyn" painting, bottom left) I would then cut out sections to fit the areas of the figure I was using and glue them down with acrylic medium.

After gluing them down, I covered the entire figure with acrylic medium to seal it. I then proceeded to paint in surrounding areas. I would then use a glaze to model the figure over the pattern. Early works were all in acrylic. Later ones were in oil over acrylic. Later in the series I abandoned the collage part and the patterns were painted. Now, the series has taken a new turn with the imagery more flat and decorative and a return to pasting pre-printed patterns from anywhere and wallpaper.
