Abandoning the wheel in 2012 did not hamper the creative activity in ceramics. The number of pieces being created is less now because of devoting part of the year to painting and drawing. Ceramics is confined to the winter months in Arizona when it is more economical to run firings.
This newest series of "Petal Pots" combines their talents. George builds the pieces with areas created that have no texture to allow Jan to carve lettering. During the building process, George often consults with Jan on the direction the overall shape should take. As always, it is a true collaboration.

The two ceramics on the right are around 28" tall. They are part of the Belief Series of ceramics begun back in 1966 with the original four ceramics called "The Belief Group", at left. One the first creations "If You'll Believe in Me I'll Believe in You" was exhibited at the Butler Institute of Art, Youngstown, Ohio in January of 1967. That first group was destroyed when they were inadvertently left outside during a freezing Ohio winter by their owner, which caused them to break by water freezing in the tiny fissures that occurred in the clay during construction. The group was re-created a few years later and exhibited a number of times down through the years. (See photos at left).
