This section will be home to two different segments: the Annual Draft Capital segment (this is the first place I'm trying this out, but I think it should be a hit) and, eventually, an annual review of the Top 10 picks from 5 seasons ago. Obviously the latter cannot debut until Season 6, so for the first handful of seasons it'll be completely dedicated to the Draft Capital segment. Overviews of each are below:
Draft Capital Segment: It always seems like the question is asked, in one way or another, "who is (or should be) the most excited for the Amateur Draft this season?" The Draft Capital segment is designed to answer that question once and for all...to do that, I have borrowed Jimmy Johnson's Draft Value trade chart (to be precise, it's an updated version.) Using this chart, I will examine the first round, supplemental round, second round and any remaining supplemental picks to see which team has the most "Draft Points" at their disposal each season. (Editor's Note: The Season 1 results should be up soon as I was hoping to get it out before the draft actually happened this season.)
Annual Draft Review: Now that we have arrived at Season 6, I can finally get around to the "typical" draft segment: a review of a prior draft. There are a number of ways that this could get done, but I think the best way to do this is to look at the top 10 picks and use Bill James' Favorite Toy to extrapolate their careers to see where they will end up when they retire in terms of career milestones. I'm going to give this a shot in the next few days and see how it turns out. Depending on how easy it is to do, and how popular it is, I may change up the format for next season.
