Monument Valley

Monument Valley - This Navajo Nation Tribal Park is located on the border of Arizona and Utah.

It has some spectacular scenery in a desert environment at an elevation of 5,000 to 6,000 feet above sea level.

I prefer to visit in the fall, late winter or early spring when the temperature can be very nice. The summer can be very hot. (see the table of temperatures down the page)

The Navajo Nation has greatly improved the access to this park. The scenic dirt road through the park is now easy to drive in a normal auto. You are now allowed to get out of your car and hike around the park. You can also hire a Navajo Diné guide to drive you off road to other places in the park.

Monument valley is nice because you can bring your dog. Do watch out for the local dogs who sometimes travel around in packs - they tend to be by parking areas where jewelry and crafts are being displayed.

According To The Navajo Nation Website - Average Temperatures (°F)

Weather Forecast From Weather.com

Weather Forecast From National Weather Service

I prefer to visit in the fall, late winter or early spring when the temperature can be very nice. The summer can be very hot. Remember there is almost no shade so you will be out in the sun. It is in the desert so it is very dry. Because it is very dry the temperature can go up and down very much between day and night.

It is generally clearer in the fall, winter and early spring so things look more spectacular at these times of year. The pictures and videos on this website were taken in late November - The weather was delightful for hiking and exploring - a high around 60/62 with very little wind, beautiful clear blue sky and warm sunshine.

The Navajo Nation's power plant is now much much cleaner than it used to be so in general the sky is now very clear - thanks Navajo Nation!

Some times Navajo are called Diné. Some Navajo prefer to be called Diné..
