Master of Math Program

From May 2019 until September 2023, I led a project to revamp the University of Tennessee's Master of Mathematics (M.M.) distance education program for math educators. I am fortunate to have worked with a diligent and caring team, which included Pam Armentrout, Michael Gelantalis, John Griffis, David Horton, Anna Kazanova, Vy Nguyen, Karin Pringle, Shel Swenson, Alan Von Herrmann, and Allison Wolf. We introduced a new comprehensive portfolio system, updated our existing courses, and added new ones to increase the pathways to degree completion. Our program mission was to support teachers as mathematicians with rigorous mathematical training in a broad range of topics, and we did this by using evidence-based, inclusive, and accessible practices.

During my time as the director of the program, I was able to work with 37 graduates from a range of backgrounds. Additionally, I was proud that our team fostered a close-knit community of educators from across the country. In fall of 2023, I transitioned to a new role, and the current director of the program is Dr. Karin Pringle.
