Board of directors
A board of directors is a body of elected or appointed members who jointly oversee the activities of a company or organization. Other names include board of governors, board of managers, board of regents,board of trustees, and board of visitors.
DEFINITION OF 'CHAIRMAN'
An executive elected by a company's board of directors that is responsible for presiding over board or committee meetings. The chairman ensures that the meetings run smoothly and remain orderly, and works at achieving a consensus in board decisions. The position is different than that of the chief executive officer (CEO), and can be either a non-executive (part-time) or executive (full-time) position.
The chief executive officer: In some companies, the roles of CEO and chairman are combined. This has the effect of reducing transparency and accountability due to the reduced checks and balances created by having two separate positions with separate job functions.
The highest ranking executive in a company whose main responsibilities include developing and implementing high-level strategies, making major corporate decisions, managing the overall operations and resources of a company, and acting as the main point of communication between the board of directors and the corporate operations. The CEO will often have a position on the board, and in some cases is even the chair.

A director can be a, senior manager, shareholder, or represent some outside interest.
Chief officers, such as the CFO (finance) are at the top of the hierarchy. The heads of the departments are called managers.
Managers can be senior, middle or junior (beginners).
Be careful: director means administrateur in French.
The CEO is the directeur général.
