Topics 4/5 - Division

Look through the following menu categories and decide your meal. Your path will be determined by the group that you are assigned after taking the division pre-test. Choose one beverage, appetizer, entrée, and dessert. For extra credit, freshen your grade with an after-dinner mint.

Bread:

Take the division pre-test at http://goo.gl/forms/yj6Nv5XidZ. Your teacher will assign you to a group based on your results.

Beverage:

Group A:

o Go to Math Magician and play at level 2 division until you get 80% or higher. Print your results.

o Make a How-To Sheet which explains division patterns, with examples. Be sure to include 5 practice problems at the end of the study guide. Use Lesson 4-1 as a model.

Group B:

o Watch this Study Jams video on multiplication and division. Take notes on the key points and vocabulary terms. Feel free to pause the video while writing. Use your notes to “Test Yourself.” Print your results page when you finish.

o Play “Driving into Division” with a partner. Be sure to show the work for all of your problems and have a teacher observe at least one turn in the game. Click here for virtual dice.

Appetizer:

Group A:

o Make a game of your choice using division problems with one-digit divisors. Create 8 problems and solve them on an answer key. Here are some blank game boards to help you.

o Create a picture book which explains how to solve division problems with one-digit divisors. Be sure that you show all of your work and be creative.

o Create a song or a rap which explains how to divide with one-digit divisors.

Group B:

o Use dice to complete the “Rolling for Division” graphic organizer. Click here for virtual dice.

o Use a deck of cards to complete the Flipping for Division” graphic organizer.

o Complete the Division Shark Muncher activity sheet.

Entrée:

o Go to www.tinyurl.com/topic5cbe1 and do the Step by Step. Then complete the Watch Out and Try It activities. Afterwards, do the Test Yourself and print your results.

o Go to www.tinyurl.com/topic5cbe2 and watch one video for each division problem. Be sure to copy each problem into your notebook as an example. Afterwards, complete 6 problems on this worksheet.

o Go to www.tinyurl.com/dragdiv and do the problems, leaving the settings as they are. Show your work in your notebook and print your results.

Dessert:

o Create a division quiz that you could

give to the class. Don’t forget your answer key!

o Complete 6 division problems on the SmartBoard or Flip Camera

and show the teacher when you are finished.

o Create a FacingMath math sheet on long division and draw your

own answer character on a blank face. Then have a friend, principal,

older sibling, or parent complete your activity.

After-Dinner Mint:

o Go to Cool Math For Kids - Timernator and practice your division. Play it once, write down your goal. Play it again and try and beat your score. Show your teacher your scores when you are finished.
