Salad:
o S1- Create a PowerPoint explaining the Order of Operations (PEMDAS.) Include step-by-step instructions explaining how to solve this problem: 9 – 6 + (12 ÷ 3) x 2.
o S2- Create a Poster explaining the Order of Operations (PEMDAS.) Include step-by-step instructions explaining how to solve this problem: 9 – 6 + (12 ÷ 3) x 2.
o S3- Write a letter to a friend explaining how to use PEMDAS to simplify an expression. Include step-by-step instructions explaining how to solve this problem: 9 – 6 + (12 ÷ 3) x 2. See the example letter to get ideas for formatting your own letter.
Appetizer:
o A1- Watch this BrainPop video and take the quiz. Be sure to print your results!!!
o A2- Watch a PowerPoint on order of operations and complete problems #7-12 on page 197 in your textbook. Solve the problems on graph paper, showing all of your work.
o A3- Go to Study Jams and complete the “Step by Step” activity, then listen to Order of Operations Karaoke song. Complete the “Test Yourself” section and print the results page when you finish.
Entrée:
o E1- Play 3 rounds of Order of Operations “Connect Four” with a partner. Use the instructions sheet to help pick the correct settings for the game. Make sure to have a teacher record your score before you move on!
o E2- Write and solve five expressions that require the use of order of operations. (Example: 6 - 3 x 2 + 4 = 4) After a teacher checks your work, you will be assigned a mystery task to share your work with the school community.
o E3- Play Order Ops (at mrnussbaum.com) until you have saved 5 Royals. Make sure to show a teacher how many royals you have saved, so they can record your score before you move on!
Dessert:
o D1- Go to this website to play a game on Order of Operations. Show your highest score to your teacher, and they may add it to the Class Scoreboard!
