You will be conducting a study on TWO of the many interesting countries in the world. You will design a website (using Google sites) on your countries to show to your classmates. Your job will be to highlight the fascinating aspects of the country so that others will also want to take a virtual tour of your country. Use the country graphic organizers to guide your research.
TaskCreate a website which has the required information for both countries and a page that compares the two.
Process
Your research should include at least one full typed page of information on the country including the location in the world with a world map showing exactly where your country is located, language or languages spoken (try to find some examples of words in that language and their meanings in English), capital city, population, land area in square kilometres, food (examples of food that are special to that country if different from what we eat), religion (what are some of the main religions of the country), resources & economy (what things are produced in the country to make money), average temperatures (average temperature in January, average temperature in July in Celsius) and a couple of paragraphs describing the culture of the country.
There are lots of links to information gathered for you but remember to also get images that will add to your presentation. A good place to start looking for free images is at:
http://www.apimages.com/Default.aspx and http://schools.iclipart.com/iowa/. Ask me for the login information.
Your website should include the following for each country:
country map indicating the capital city and how far it is from Cedar Rapids, Iowa (include how long it would take to fly there in a plane. You could really challenge yourself and find out how many pennies or other objects like candy bars or basketballs it would take if you stretched them out between here and there).
an image of the country's flag (look at the AppleWorks library or Hyperstudio)
land area
population
resources & economy (what things are produced in the country to make money)
languages spoken & religions (try to find some examples of words in that language and their meanings in English) religion (what are some of the main religions of the country)
culture (a couple of paragraphs describing what make the people of this country different from peoples in other countries)*great place for pictures (or videos of music/dance)
food (examples of food that are special to that country if different from what we eat) *Great place for images
weather (average temperature in January, average temperature in July in Celsius)
A folktale a page which includes a folktale from the country and tells what the theme of the folktale is. images of the country (landmarks, cities, people, clothing, etc.)A comparison page which compares your two countries
a credit page which has an image of yourself labeled with your name
Resources page Magazines: World Geographic, National Geographic, Encyclopaedias & CDs, Public Library, School Library, and the Internet. Go to the Country List & Links (There are lots of links to get you started, however, feel free to look for other sites.) Make sure to keep track of any websites you use. Copy and paste the link right away on your resources page then label it. If you use a book or encyclopedia please write that down as well.
