Every Community Deserves a Y

Founded in 1981, the Camarillo Family YMCA, a branch of the Channel Islands YMCA of Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties, serves the communities of Camarillo, Somis and Oxnard; operated for twenty years without a facility. The Camarillo Family YMCA offered the community popular and nationally recognized programs, involving 1800 youth and their families annually, including childcare, parent-child programs, youth sports, youth day and resident camps all from rented spaces within the community.

Anthony Unchangco was part of a dedicated team of volunteers and staff who secured 5 acres and $5,800,000 to build a state-or-the-art YMCA facility in Camarillo, CA. Unchangco was directly responsible for raising $1,200,000, overseeing the construction process, and communication & publication to the local community, all while upholding the $1,000,000 Childcare & Community Programs Department.

On April 22, 2006 the Camarillo Family YMCA- Hiji Center opened the doors to a 14,000-square-foot facility at 3111 Village at the Park Drive.
