As the second city in the Detroit area, Windsor was often overlooked in the annals of Pigball history. But when a separate Canadian premiership was created in 1922, Windsor had 2 clubs, Windsor United, and this one, the nickname of Spitfires was adopted after a hockey team of the same name became popular. In recent years, the Spitfires have played Automotive for the Border Cities Trophy, a contest that has become a twice-a-season affair within the NPL.
