Due to a developing situation regarding the novel coronavirus COVID-19, the NPL suspended it's inaugural season after one week, March 12, and did not restart the season until July 4. As a result, the Pigball Rules Committee implemented the following changes for the remainder of the season: All players were to undergo daily COVID-19 tests, with positive tests to sit out matches until receiving two straight negative tests; clocks were to countdown to zero, and time-on rules were suspended; contact to the face with the hand resulted in an automatic 20-yard penalty; high fives and spitting were prohibited, though not penalized; spectators were forbidden from attending league matches; coaches, officials, and non-playing participants were required to wear masks at all times; club radio broadcasters had to do road matches from their home cities, and; interviews were required to be conducted outdoors;
