1930
Washington City record a perfect 46-0 season, becoming the first team in league history to have such a performance. They also score the most goals in history(1,193) and allow the fewest in a season with more than 30 games(177). It's the Columbians' fifth sucessive premiership.
Despite the onset of the Great Depression, only one PL club, 2nd division squad Peoria, is forced to close down.
1931
Hoping to stave off the effects of a deepening depression, North End United enters into agreements with clubs in Fargo and Thief River Falls to provide the team prospects.
Washington City is the Premier for the sixth season in succession, despite having their 61-game winning streak ended in Burlington, VT by Vermont 1791.
Regular network radio broadcasts of the league begin with coverage by NBC-Red and CBS.
1932
A major boost to the sport is provided by the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles, as demonstration games are held between UCLA and Harvard. Spurred by crowds of over 40,000 at the LA Memorial Coliseum, the International Olympic Committee considers adding Pigball as an olympic sport for 1936 in Berlin, but the Pigball Association blocked the proposal, claiming that Olympic inclusion would not be representative of the sport. To this day, the sport of Pigball remains outside of the Olympics.
Washington City wins it's seventh straight Premiership by four points over Boston Rovers.
1933
For the 8th year in a row, Washington City are Premiers, but only by 1 point and won on the last day of the season over Brooklyn City. Despite the victory, Columbians' captain Phil Henretty is cut by the club for refusing a reduction in salary and striker Tony Jewett requests a clearance to Boston Rovers.
1934
Without Henretty and Jewett, Washington City fall to 7th in the 1st division, while the addition of Jewett helps Boston Rovers to hold off North End United by 3 points for 1st place.
Henretty eventually signs in August with Baltimore.
On August 18th, Vermont and Toronto City play to the first ever pointless draw in 1st division history.
1935
With most blue laws related to athletic contests eliminated or relaxed, the PL bylaws are revised to allow teams to schedule games on Sunday at their wishes. Despite the new opportunities, most teams prefer to play on Saturday games.The PL also allows night games to played for the first time.
Newly promoted to the 1st division, Kansas City PC win the Premiership by 8 points over a two-way tie for 2nd between Washington City and Philadelphia United.
The Columbians' Nick Ryan scores 124 points(on 70 goals) to give him 1,030 for his 12-year career, the first player over 1,000 career points.
1936
New York Scotch edge Kansas City PC by 2 points to claim the 1st division premiership.
The 1st intercollegiate playoff is held in New Haven and host Yale defeat Chicago 15-11 to win the Roberts Cup.
The International Pigball Association is formed in December with 14 founding national associations as members. The PA and PL help setup the United States Pigball Association(Today's USA Pigball) to represent the Unted States on the IPA.
1937
Washington City return to the top of the 1st division table, led by Nick Ryan's 136 points.
The Rice Street Grounds hosts the first official night game in Pigball history on May 5th as North End United defeat Boston Union 19-14.
1938
In traveling to Minnesota for games between Minneapolis United and St. Paul City in July, Boston Union become the first team to utilize air service to get to and from games.
Minneapolis United win their first Premiership by 10 points over Chicago West End.
1939
W2XBS, forerunner to today's NBC network, broadcasts a September 7th match between Brooklyn City and New York Scotch, the first televised pigball game in history.
The Scotch, who won the match 15-9, win their second premiership in four years, by 5 points over Washington City.
