3rd Grade Requirements
Students will read two books from each genre:
realistic fiction (read at least one chapter book from this genre)
fairy tale
folk tale
poetry
biography/autobiography
nature/science
… and don’t forget the award-winning books (Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Mark Twain)!
Record-keeping: Fill out with your child a summer reading verification log for each book. Please return the completed reading logs to your child’s English teacher by August 31. (View) (Download)
Incentives: First, the priceless experience of reading lots of great books! Also, children who participate in the program will have the privilege of extra casual days during the first quarter of school:
Three reading logs turned in = 1 extra casual day
Six readings logs turned in = 2 extra casual days
Nine reading logs turned in = 3 extra casual days
Twelve reading logs turned in = 4 extra casual days
Participants will receive stickers to wear on their extra casual days which will identify them as Summer Readers.
