Dear Incoming 3rd Graders,
Hello, 3rd Grade Friends! My name is Mme Milius, and I will be your English teacher next year. To help prepare you for your 3rd grade adventure, I’ve created a summer reading program that will expose you to some of the authors and reading genres we will cover in 3rd grade. This is an optional program. You do not have to participate. However, if you do participate, you can earn casual day stickers. Here’s how it works!
Using the Tic-tac- toe Read 4 in a Row sheet, select books to read. After you read a book, do the following:
1. Complete a book report form. There are two different book report forms attached to this note. One is for fiction books, and the other is for nonfiction books. Feel free to copy as many as you need. They are also on my website for printing out.
2. Color in the block on the Tic-tac- toe sheet. For every 4 blocks in a row (vertical, horizontal or diagonal) you color in and have a book report form for, you will earn one casual day sticker. You do need a completed book report form for each block. If you color in all the blocks and have a book report form for each one, you will earn 6 casual day stickers.
On this page, you will find the following:
A book list with books I recommend. You do not have to select the books on the suggested list. You may select your own as well.
The book report forms. Feel free to photocopy more as you need them.
The Tic-tac- toe Read 4 in a Row sheet-Be sure to color in each box as you read the book.
All book report forms and the Tic-tac- toe sheet can be turned in when school resumes in August. Feel free to email me with any questions or comments at smilius@academielafayette.org. Have a wonderful summer and happy reading!
Sincerely,
Mme Milius
