Welcome New and Returning ALIHS families!
We would like to encourage all of our new and returning high school students to take part in reading for pleasure this summer. Research shows "that reading enjoyment predicts better verbal abilities", and that "identifying as a reader uniquely predicted better verbal abilities in [an] undergraduate sample" ("What’s Your Pleasure? Exploring the Predictors of Leisure Reading for Fiction and Nonfiction").
We hope that our continued attention to reading for pleasure will help create a love of reading throughout our student's lives!
Current and incoming high school students have the opportunity to participate in up to three in-person book club meetings throughout the Summer. Our Librarian, Mme. Belcher, along with HS English teacher Mme. Absher and IB Coordinator Katy Wilson, have chosen the following titles and will take turns facilitating the book discussions. Details on meeting locations to follow shortly. Students will receive a free copy of the books by signing up with Mme. Absher by 5.20.22! Any questions can be directed to Mme. Belcher at jbelcher@academielafayette.org.
