Dear Parents/Guardians,
Get ready for summer! This year your child has made great progress in reading. To keep up the momentum the English department is asking for your participation in our Summer Reading Program. Children might ask, why is summer reading important? After all, they’ve “been there, done that” all year! The quick and easy answers are that reading sparks the imagination, can take the child to faraway times and places, and helps them learn about their world. A child’s curiosity does not take a summer break.
One of the best ways for children to learn that reading is important, is for them to see those around them reading. Every time adults pick up a newspaper or magazine, or read a book in front of a child, they are showing children that reading is important. So when you are poolside, put on that sunscreen and grab a book, and encourage your child to do the same!
Please see the attached documents for the summer reading program guidelines and incentives for each grade level.
