To our families: thank you for taking an interest in summer reading. This is a simple, but effective, research-proven practice for preventing summer learning loss and fostering lifelong literacy. Your child's teachers have curated lists of suggested titles that may be engaging for their age group. However, the important thing is connecting your kid with volumes they will enjoy, regardless of genre, level, or medium. Your friendly local public librarian also has great ideas. Summer reading programs from the Public Library are great motivators for kids, as is modeling from adults. Setting aside even a small amount of daily or weekly time for family reading can lead to strong habits.
