Conversational French: Advanced Beginner
You have achieved success as a beginner, but before moving to the intermediate level we recommend Conversational French: Advanced Beginner. In this class you will talk about your home and neighborhood, leisure activities, childhood memories, past and present relationships and ordering in a restaurant. Through direct interaction with native speakers, you will learn about holidays and customs, how different cultures conduct themselves at mealtime, how to express likes and dislikes, give compliments and express feelings.

Conversational French: Intermediate II
This course builds on the concepts and structures covered in Conversational French: Intermediate I. You already know how to get your point across in French using short sentences, but you want to express your thoughts and wishes with more sophistication when interacting with native speakers. In this course you will
Further develop the ability to express your opinions and point of view;
Review grammar points in context (including direct and indirect object pronouns; stressed and relative pronouns; future, past and conditional tenses and the subjunctive mood);
Broaden your vocabulary;
Improve your listening comprehension skills and pronunciation;
Expand your knowledge of French-speaking cultures;
Watch episodes of the film Le Chemin du retour, the story of a young television journalist, Camille Leclair, and her pursuit of the truth about her grandfather's mysterious past.

Featured Course:
French Language and Culture Immersion (for Advanced Beginner level and up), January 17-31, 2026
Become immersed in the study of French language and French-speaking cultures for three consecutive Saturdays, seven hours per day. The course will be taught entirely in French, and students will commit to communicating exclusively in French.
The program is open to students with a wide range of abilities to comprehend and communicate in French (recommended for Advanced Beginner level and up). You will spend significant time with others at a similar level and will gain skills in all five language areas: speaking, writing, reading, listening and cultural understanding. The primary focus will be on listening and speaking proficiency through interaction with other participants, instructors and native speakers.
French Language and Culture Immersion balances rigorous, focused, project-based language learning with engaging and enjoyable activities. Upon successful completion of this course, you will demonstrate:
Increased confidence in conversing with native speakers and others on a variety of contemporary issues, including political, artistic and cultural themes.
Improved competency in grammatical structures that underlie effective spoken and written communication.
Increased understanding and appreciation of the diversity of peoples, cultures and ethnicities that comprise la francophonie, the global French-speaking community.
