En 2018, Diégane Latyr Faye, jeune écrivain sénégalais, découvre à Paris un livre mythique, paru en 1938 : Le Labyrinthe de l’inhumain. On a perdu la trace de son auteur, qualifié en son temps de « Rimbaud nègre », depuis le scandale que déclencha la parution de son texte. Diégane s’engage alors, fasciné, sur la piste du mystérieux T.C. Elimane, se confrontant aux grandes tragédies que sont le colonialisme ou la Shoah. Du Sénégal à la France en passant par l’Argentine, quelle vérité l’attend au centre de ce labyrinthe ?

D’une perpétuelle inventivité, La Plus Secrète Mémoire des Hommes est un roman étourdissant, dominé par l’exigence du choix entre l’écriture et la vie, ou encore par le désir de dépasser la question du face-à-face entre Afrique et Occident. Il est surtout un chant d’amour à la littérature et à son pouvoir intemporel.

Mohamed Mbougar Sarr est un romancier sénégalais, né en 1990. Il intègre le lycée du Prytanée militaire de Saint-Louis au Sénégal et obtient le titre de Meilleur élève des classes de Terminale au Concours général de 2009. Arrivé en France et après des études en classes préparatoires littéraires, il poursuit son cursus à l’Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences sociales (EHESS). Il y effectue un master, formation Arts et langues et travaille également sur Léopold Sédar Senghor.

Il devient lauréat du prix Stéphane Hessel pour sa nouvelle “La Cale” (2014), est ensuite récompensé du Prix Ahmadou Kourouma au Salon du livre de Genève et du Grand Prix du Roman métis (Éditions Présence africaine, 2015) pour son premier roman Terre Ceinte, puis est élevé au rang de Chevalier de l’Ordre national du Mérite par le Président de la République du Sénégal. Son second roman Silence du Chœur (Éditions Présence africaine, 2017) est lui récompensé du Prix littérature monde au Festival Étonnants Voyageurs de Saint-Malo. En 2021, il reçoit le Prix Goncourt pour son roman La Plus Secrète Mémoire des Hommes.

About the book:

In 2018, Diégane Latyr Faye, a young Senegalese writer, discovers a legendary book in Paris, published in 1938: The Labyrinth of the Inhuman. We have lost track of its author, described in his time as the “Black Rimbaud,” due to the scandal triggered by the publication of his text. Diégane then sets out, fascinated, on the trail of the mysterious T.C. Elimane, confronting the great tragedies of colonialism, or the Shoah. From Senegal to France via Argentina, what truth awaits him at the center of this labyrinth?

Mohamed Mbougar Sarr is a Senegalese novelist, born in 1990. He joined the Prytanée Militaire High School in Saint-Louis, Senegal, and was named Best Student in the Terminale Classes in the 2009 open competition. After arriving in France and studying in literary preparatory classes, he continued his studies at the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (EHESS). He completed a master's degree there, training in arts and languages, and studied the works of Léopold Sédar Senghor.

He won the Stéphane Hessel Prize for his short story “La Cale” (2014), was then awarded the Ahmadou Kourouma Prize at the Geneva Book Fair and the Grand Prix du Roman Métis (Éditions Présence Africaine, 2015) for his first novel Terre Ceinte and then was elevated to the rank of Knight of the National Order of Merit by the President of the Republic of Senegal. His second novel Silence du Chœur (Éditions Présence Africaine, 2017) was awarded the World Literature Prize at the Amazing Travelers Festival in Saint-Malo. In 2021, he received the Prix Goncourt for his novel La Plus Secrète Mémoire des Hommes.
