This a place where suggestions or concerns may be added if we think there are things that we would like to share. I'd also like to use this forum to talk about our individual visions for the cabin. I'll start and hopefully others will follow. Through this process we can shape the discussion of what direction we will take in the future.
I really miss the wood stove and would like to discuss bringing the one from Gram's kitchen up as a replacement. To me the defining attribute of the cabin was always the wood stove. I like the feeling of stepping back in time to cook over a real fire. I love the way it warms the kitchen in the morning and I like the process of planning the days meals around when the fire is hot. It just isn't the same for me without it.
I'd also like to see us remodel the kitchen into a larger space. I love working in the kitchen, but often I feel left out of what's going on out on the porch or in the dining room. Possibilities I've thought of are to open the wall between the kitchen and dining room, and/or have French doors opening out onto the porch. It would give us much needed space in the kitchen and achieve a great traffic flow for the entire downstairs. I know this isn't a wholly hatched idea, but it's someplace to start.
I'd also love to be able to have a cleaning service take care of the inside. Or, perhaps on the day we leave, someone from Pollock Pines could come up and work with us to prepare the cabin for its next guests. We could develop a protocol for cleaning the cabin that is agreeable to everyone. It would be really nice to make the end of the cabin stay easier and make sure the cabin in is good order for the next occupants.

I think that the kitchen should be enjoyed the way it is after the extensive up-dating and rejuvenating process...at least for the time being. There was a lot of thought and energy put into it.
There is still a wood stove in the kitchen; it can be used for cooking, for warmth, for a center of conversation. If the electric stove proves to be impractical, it can be replaced.
I think that the septic tank repair is a priority this summer.

I truly appreciate that a lot of thought and energy went into the renovation of the kitchen. However, there wasn't any discussion between the families as to the decisions made. That being said, I do think we should "live with it" in this iteration to see if is workable to all. If the wood stove from Gram's kitchen becomes available (which I think it will because of code issues the city has), I think we should try and acquire it just in case.
