The Original Kitchen
The Renovated Kitchen
We intended to keep the feeling of the old kitchen by doing a gentle renovation. The old Monarch stove, vintage 1949 (?), which had gone through the flood, was only working on two of the four electric burners; the oven door had a broken hinge and could not be closed except by propping a stick of wood against it; the stove top was rusting and developing holes, the enamel was in poor shape, and we found a 2-inch hole in the stovepipe. They say that it probably weighs 500 pounds. We did not put it onto a scale. It is at John's if anyone wants to have it.
We replaced the flooring, the sink cabinet while keeping the original enamel sink, the wood-burning stove with a simple wood-burner just like the one that Chiltons have, the stove pipe has since been put into place and the stove works properly, and the stove with a ceramic-top electric stove with two ovens, four burners and a warming burner. There is also a new set of shelves above the stove, a basket for the pot holders, new curtains to match the new yellow paint, the white enamel windows and the white bead board with chair rails. The sheet-rock was replaced behind the stove and sink where there was mildew. The direct wiring to the stove was replaced by an outlet.
Dustin dismantling the rotten woodshed. The deck house looks much better now.
There will be more projects to add to this page as time goes on.
