Week 34 – Self Presentation
Updated 03. August 2021
The first week you will get to know each other. However, there are many new faces, places and stories. It might be difficult to remember it all. Therefore we are going to help each other out by sharing our stories through short digital stories.
For the screen recordings you can use Screencast-o-matic, or Screencastify, or Quicktime on a Mac.
By the end of next Friday (the 27.) your assignment is to produce the following:
A short digital story that tells a little about yourself. Where do you come from, what are your interests, and so on
You are making this presentation for your peers: fellow students and teachers.
Post the video to Youtube, where you can make it "unlisted", and post the link in Canvas. The digital story has to include a map that shows where you are from – use a screenshot from Google maps etc
a picture of you – make sure you are recognisable
a picture from a place of significance to you
a little about your interests
Your story should be about 90 seconds
If you like, have a look at the introduction to digital storytelling and see thought the videos.
There are a lot of different tools that can be used to tell digital stories. For now, we are going to focus on a few:
Presentation software, e.g Powerpoint, Google Presenter etc, to organise the content
Screen recording software, e.g Screencast-o-matic, to make a screen recording of the presentation with your voice
Do not worry if the video is not as you want it the first time. Just make a new one, and post the final version to the shared Facebook group.
In private settings you can do pretty much what you like with any image you find online. If you are going to use an image in any setting that might be considered public, it becomes a different story. Making av video presentation for a school, a company, an organisation etc is definitely public. Even if the video is only about personal stuff you can not include other peoples' images, given that the result is publicly available.
Note that you always should be restrictive when it comes to use pictures of other people.
As far a copyright is concerned there are some precautions that you can, and should, do:
