Shintaro Okamoto, owner of Okamoto Studio, an artist collective that produces large-scale ice sculptures in NYC. have a look for inspiration.
We will work in groups, and there will be lots of room for experiment. Do remember to bring cameras to document the process for your workbooks.
We will not know this years conditions before we are actually there, but on land we should be able to access the foot of the glacier where it is low and safe. We will try to do some work on sculpturing parts of the ice. We will try to do the carving with small axes.
Hopefully we will be able to have hands on experience with different qualities of ice, ranging from the old, solid ice with little air to the ice that is more like compact snow.
