In question five you created a very specific list of things that need to happen to achieve your goal. In this question, question six, we're going to talk about things that may stand in your way.
Barriers are things that get in the way of your goal. Some barriers might stop us from taking action. For example, being too tired to stay awake in class may be a barrier to getting your homework done. Barriers might also be things that make the actions that we take less effective or make them work less. For example, forgetting to take your medication might make it more difficult to concentrate on your work. If it takes longer to do your work, of if it is harder to do without meds, forgetting to take your medication is a barrier. Other examples of barriers include, having tests printed on a color of paper that you have a difficult time reading; needing a test read at a time that all of the teachers are busy; or believing that you can't achieve your goal.
The three multiple-choice questions below ask you to decide whether each statement is a barrier, or not. Remember, in question 4, I stated that my goal is to improve my writing, including my scores on writing probes. You might want to review your goal in question four and your steps in question five before you begin. After you finish the questions, please scroll down to the bottom of the page.
Now it's your turn to list the barriers that stand in the way of your goal. In your SDLMI Google Doc under question 6, "What could keep me from taking action," write down at least three things that are barriers that may make it harder or nearly impossible to achieve your goal.
