Today, your job is to figure out at least one thing that you want to learn. It could also be something that you want to do, know about, or work on.
First, think of things that you're already good at. Sometimes we call these your strengths. Are you good at using a computer to help you learn? Are you good at hands on learning? Strengths are things that you're good at, even if you don't like them very much.
Take a minute to jot down something that is one of your strengths, so that you'll remember it.
Preferences are things that you like. Do you like a quiet room to study? Do you like to work with a group? Preferences are things that you like, even if they don't help you very much.
Take a minute to jot down something that is one of your preferences, so that you'll remember it.
Interests are things that you want to know a lot about. Interests are things that you are excited to learn more about, and work on, even if it's a lot of work. Are you interested in driving? Are you interested in a kind of music that most of your friends are not? Interests are usually things that you're curious about.
Take a minute to jot down something that is one of your interests, so that you'll remember it.
Finally, instructional needs are things that change the way you to learn in school in order to do better. Do you do better when you can hear something than when you read it? Being able to hear assignments and tests may be an instructional need. Do you understand math better when you can ask a teacher questions in a small group? Working in a small group may be an instructional need.
Take a minute to jot down something that is one of your instructional needs, so that you'll remember it.
Next, answer the four questions about strengths, preferences, interests, and instructional needs towards the bottom of this web page.
Finally, open your SDLMI Goal Page. Your last job today is to think of at least one thing that you're interested in doing differently at school and write it under the question "What do I want to learn?" What are one or two things that you want to learn? You could also write down something that you want to know about. If you already have an idea of what goal do you want to work on, you could write that down too.
