Ilium is located along the Western coast of the Eastern continent. It shares no land borders with any country and is one of the largest countries in the recognized world. It has a temperature coastal climate, featuring mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers . It is a very hilly and mountainous region that transitions into idyllic coastline. The land is rich and ripe for farming, but possesses relatively little forested area.
Ilium has been ruled by the Priamus family for the past 20 generations. The Archon is considered the de facto leader of Ilium, but there is a system of checks and balances in place to prevent the events which preceded the Civil War prior to the Priamus family taking control. All citizens are members of the Assembly, which serves as a legislative body of sorts.
The current ruler of Ilium is Archon Priamus Iskandr IV. He has been in power for the past 27 years, well longer than most rulers. He is regarded as both an apt negotiator and strategist, leading to a Golden Age for the country. The Royal Family is made up of several members, but there are only three clear successors to the throne,
The position of Priamus is that of near absolute authority, command over all forces and the arbiter of the direction for the people of Ilium. The implementation of these directions is delegated to The Assembly, but the intent is never questioned.
The Assembly serves as the legislative and judicial body for Ilium. Any and all citizens are welcome to take part in the proceedings of the Assembly, but only those who have made it a career are invited to speak on the Assembly floor. While somewhat inefficient, the Assembly does ensure that the citizens of Ilium have a voice. It is common for the Priamus and members of the Royal Family to observe, but never partake in these meetings. The Assembly members, however, are the sole arbiters regarding the line of succession and when a ruler is to be replaced.
Citizenship requirements are deceptively simple; a citizen must own land that has been granted by a member of the Royal Family. This can prove difficult as new land is rarely granted, the land must produce goods for Ilium in the form of taxes or raw goods within a year. Most outsiders are either unwilling or incapable to meet to quotas required, leading to few new citizens.
Despite the relative peace and stability of the region, laws originating from the end of the Ilosian Civil War. Laws are strict and punishments harsh. The major ideology that has persisted encompassed the belief that people would only learn how to behave properly if they feared what would happen to them if they broke the law. These laws are particularly harsh on mages, who are second class citizens in all but name. Order is dictated through fear of harsh punishment far outweighing the crime. As a result, most are careful to stay well within the confines of what is deemed legal. All citizens are expected to understand the full extent of the letter of the law and, as such, serve as judges throughout the region of Ilium. A court of appeals does exist, but it is common practice to wait for several months following the decision of a citizen, years if the individual making the appeal is an outsider.
The Ilosian Aionas encompasses the various branches of the armed forces of the country, the Aerial Soma, Naval Soma, Spire Soma, and Expeditionary Soma. While the armed forces are well equipped and well trained, the Ilosians will not ever start a war of aggression, at least not under the current leadership. This lack of experience is certainly an issue for maintaining a trained group of veterans, but peacetime and extensive training do serve to combat this. Though somewhat antiquated in the modern military scheme, the Ilosian Aionas trains all their service people to wield spear and shield as the primary weapon.

The Mesaian Pantheon is a set of homogenized religious beliefs between the three Mesaian nations of Lantea, Ilium, and Poleis. While each nation has its own unique traditions, all revere the pantheon.
Though the entirety of the pantheon is worshiped as it pertains to each path of that god, the people of Ilium maintain a close relationship with their patron Hypertheia and her wife Resteri. When the Ilosian peoples first set out to explore, they were guided by the light of Hypertheia's fire in the sky, Sol. When Sol left the day, they instead found their way by the cold night fire of Resteri in the dark skies, always providing a way home for weary travelers.
When Allagi betrayed the Mesaian peoples, it was the combined might of Hypertheia and Resteri forged into the blade wielded by Tirel that finally felled him.

Ilosians have a strong sense of nationalism and duty to their country. This leads to many citizens serving in a branch of the Ilosian Aionas.
