Define: Home Range (Wikipedia)

Establish why the concept of Home Range is important.

Examples of cognitive maps from other cultures/times/places.

1. Each student uses a large piece of brown paper.
2. Decide the location of the place that is periodically visited that is the farthest from home (e.g., North Shore surfing spot). Mark this with a point on one side of the paper.
3. Decide on a place that is periodically visited that is furthest generally in the opposite direction (e.g., Hawaii Kai). Mark this with a point on the other side of the paper.
4. Place a marker for your home in an appropriate location.
5. Mark all the other places you visit fairly regularly.
6. Draw lines between each of the places that represent the number of trips you make in a month (e.g., going to and returning from school each school day for a month).

The pattern of the lines marks in individual's "home range."
