Membership Information
Please read the following information
A registration package will be sent upon request
Registration in the 2nd Texas Cavalry Company A includes insurance through the 2nd Texas Cavalry Co. A, Inc insurance carrier. You must be a member in order to obtain insurance. Anyone who is NOT listed on our unit roster will NOT be allowed to participate at an event. Members of other units will be allowed to fall in with the 2nd provided they have registered at the event and are authorized by their company commanders along with showing proof of insurance.
Fees and dues are payable at time of registration.
Fees and dues for those taking the field (military) are subject to change due to insurance premium and company costs. An update will be available. Please contact us for current costs
Fees for dependents are the same for all members
If renewing your registration, all fees and dues are due NO LATER than September 1st. The insurance payment is due October 1. If fees are received AFTER 9/1 the renewing member becomes a NEW member and is placed on probation for another year. If you are currently a civilian member and dues are received AFTER 9/1 you will be dropped from the roster and check returned.
If your payment is late and you have been placed on probation for the upcoming year, you MUST complete the probationary guidelines (5 events/1 Maximum) to remain in the unit. If you do not fulfill the requirement, no matter how much time you had or your position, you will be dropped from the roster of the 2nd.
If you join part of the year, the fees and dues are the same and renewal is due no later than the above date.
You are responsible for paying any fees for an event. Event fees are NOT paid out of company funds. There is a deadline posted in your notification for event fees. Some events do not allow you to pay at an event, so if you didn't pre-register, you don't play. We don't "front" fees and collect them later.
You are responsible for obtaining cartridges and powder. We have some made up and you may purchase it through us for cost. (See suppliers page for powder)
If you resign or leave for any reason, you ARE NOT entitled to have your dues and membership returned.
Once a member of the unit, you must have your "kit" or uniform (30 Days) and accessories within 60 days and rifle within one (1) year. Some of the vendors we work with offer a discount.
All NEW members of the unit MUST complete a 1 (one) Year probationary period.
Probationary members are REQUIRED to attend five events including our maximum event.
Do not purchase anything until you receive our uniform guidelines.
Minors wishing to join the unit MUST have a parent or guardian join the unit as well. The rate, whether they take the field or not is the same as a participating member. A separate registration form and permission slip MUST be submitted.
Minimum age for taking the field as a soldier is 16 or older.
Minors under the age of 16 but older than 12 may take the field as musicians, stretcher bearers or runners and CANNOT handle firearms.
Minors over 10 but under 16 will be assigned to our cadet corps. (Cavalry Cadets)
A minor enlistment application will be sent along with the enlistment package. This MUST be signed and witnessed.
All members of the unit MUST attend an annual safety meeting. In other words, you must have a safety briefing at least once a year.
The unit has at least one drill per year. It is a REQUIREMENT of all 2nd Texas Cavalry. If you miss the drill, you must make it up before the season is over. If the drill is not made up, you will be dropped from the roster of the 2nd. Drill may be made up at any event.
There is no discrimination within this unit and it will not be tolerated. We accept anyone regardless of age, race or sex (as long as they are willing to portray a soldier or teamster). Our unit was one of the first fully integrated units during the war. Do remember that you have joined a CS Army Texas Cavalry Company, if you are portraying a soldier you must look like one. Women are allowed to portray soldiers but must attempt to look like a male. Remember in the 1860's women were not allowed to join the army, however many did and hid it very well.
No member of the CSMC can be female. We are attempting to portray that impression accurately and there were no females attached to the CS Marines in any military capacity.
Those wishing to portray civilians only will be directed to another unit.
Those wishing to be a uniformed non-combatant will be directed to another unit.
No civilian may carry a firearm at any time or participate in battle scenarios as a civilian.
If you are wishing to portray a civilian*, you must have at least one member join and actively participate as a soldier. Please contact us as we are a military unit first and are looking for soldiers. As of 6/1/2008 the company is no longer accepting applications for civilian only re-enactors or non-combatants. Those members who are currently civilian re-enactors or non-combatants have been "grandfathered" into the unit and may stay as such. If they do not pay the yearly fee, or leave the unit they will not be allowed to re-join as a civilian or non-combatant.
*The command staff reserves the right to limit the amount of those portraying civilians (or non-battle participants) within the unit.
WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING CIVILIAN ONLY OR NON BATTLE PARTICIPANTS UNLESS YOU MEET THE CRITERIA ABOVE. ALL NEW MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE FIELD UNLESS DESIGNATED BY THE FIELD COMMANDER.
