2nd Texas Battle Reports

2011 Season

Neshaminy 2011 ( Balls Bluff / Bolivar Heights)

Company on Field 29 April 10 Effectives present.

30 April Company moved into position as skirmishers with elements of 7th Va Cavalry and 9th Va Cavalry.

2nd Texas and 7th Va covered right flank of ANV battalions with the 9th covering left flank. Enemy advanced in company strength with artillery support advancing on their left. CVG entered battle from our right flank and captured a gun and crew. Enemy counterattack then recaptured gun and forced CVG to withdraw. Large enemy force of sharpshooters were to the company right. Two troopers of the 2nd asked for and were given permission to flank the sharpshooters with pistols, the company then pushed into the wood line right of battalion flank to support Troopers. The troopers then captured nine sharpshooters including one officer and NCO. This put the Company and the 7th Va in a fortuitous position as two enemy companies from New York entered the wood line and pressed the CVG which was holding the line to their front. The 2nd and 7th were unseen on the enemy left and took advantage of the cover while firing into the enemy flank. The enemy sustained heavy casualties.

Enemy troops held the field while all companies retired in good order with minimal casualties.

Commendations to follow.

1 May Reinforced with Western Va Cavalry, the 2nd Texas, 7th Va and 9th Va along with 4th Texas engaged enemy troops in Regimental strength at Bolivar Heights. Heavy fire and constant flanking by our troopers with support from the 10th Battalion, 1st Battalion and 5th Reg't with CVG battalion pushed the Federal troops to the precipice of the heights and continued heavy fire forced them into surrender and ove r the cliff into the river. Casualties on our side were light once more with the enemy sustaining almost fifty percent.

Confederate forces held the field and repulsed the enemy.
