“We Will All Remember When Man First Set Foot on Mars” Bonn, Germany: -“ … we will allremember when the all of humanity came together at enormity of what had just happened; that disgust that technology was spreading its filth to another pristine world” –German Green party leader Hans Grendler addressing solemn throngs on Earth Day marking the backlash against spending money on what are still largely prestige projects in space. “Technology is the root of all our ills and if the profaners of nature will not heed our call for a return to a simpler life then we need to make them. Spaceship Gaia supplies us with everything we need to keep fit, moral and healthy.” continued Mr. Grendler to impassioned shouts. Similar protests throughout Europe were solemn, candle-lit affairs of prayer and vigils ending early owning to the rolling blackouts and transport shortages.

Pestilence and Death Stalk the World: The latest collaboration between the underground artists ‘Pestilence’ and ‘Death’ continued to set the artistic world ablaze today, literally. Local luminaries begged for a chance to represent the booming populations of Sub-saharan Africa, lack food and proper medical attention, the war torn and ever more populous middle east wracked by plague and sickness following behind the deaths caused by war and the spread of crop diseases. At least one local volunteer, representing ‘Seriously damaged food supplies and food scarcity in the worst affected areas’, is known to have died from his injuries.

Coltan Mining in Congo Sparks Environmental and Humanitarian Crisis Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo: Mining for Coltan, a valuable ore needed in the production of many electronic devices have caused significant damage to the countryside, triggering a massive crisis in the area. While production of key ores such as Tantalum remains unaffected, the crisis is likely to contribute drastically to increasing short-term violence as armed groups draw upon miners who are now lacking work. The Congo has immense mineral wealth but has been subject to immense political instability following its independence from Belgium in 1960. UN officials have brought back up the issue of a ban on Coltan mined from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
