Death of the 14th Dalai Lama Lhasa, Tibet: The death of the 14th Dalai Lama resulted in civil uprisings in Tibet. Tens of thousands of people took to the streets to demonstrate and mourn. The demonstrations were peaceful to begin with but eventually led to clashes with police.

The military and police will uphold the law but Beijing magnanimously shall allow the monasteries to find the next living Dali Lama." The search for the new Dalai Lama is expected to take many years.
United Nations Security Council emergency meeting on Chinese invasion of Burma
New York 2020: UNSC met today to discuss the Chinese invasion of Burma. After much deliberation it seems the only things there are agreements on is that a safe and peaceful environment should be restored to the population and a transition to democracy is wanted. Therefore an international (mainly EU) police force and civilian observers and advisors will be sent together with military observers to oversee Chinese pullback of troops. A Chinese spokesman said that they expect democratization and full withdrawal of Chinese troops by 2024.
The resolution was: 1) condemn China's invasion, 2) ask China to withdraw and 3) set up a stabilization and development mission.

Multidrug resistant Tuberculosis epidemic in Russia Jekaterinburg, Russia: The drug resistant strain of TB first reported in 2009 by Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran and by National Institute for Health and Welfare, and then in Turku, Finland in 2011 has now spread like wildfire through the population in Russia. With no remedy in sight this is certain to affect the stability and economy of the country. For the 10th straight day all air travel to or through the Russian Federation has been curtailed and large areas of the nation quarantined following massive efforts to contain the disease. Saying only that the ‘VECTOR Institute is fully engaged in combating this crisis’ the Russian Health Ministry again declined to confirm rampant speculation that this outbreak was the result of a biological terror weapon launched by an Islamist regime.

Full Civil War in Haiti Port-au-Prince, Haiti: Several factions are vying for power and people are dying by the thousands. The UN is urging nations tosend in Peacekeepers and reconstruction crews. The desperate people are plundering and killing each other and all are hungry. The Dominican Republic has closed the border and is trying to stave of the flood of refugees. The few who have boats use them to secretly ferry refugees to Cuba, USA and other neighboring countries and/or turn to piracy. The UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (UNSTAMIH) which started in 2004 have been prolonged and in 2024 expanded with a contingent of Military police from the African Union and fleet elements from France. It is hoped that this will stabilize the situation. Medicines sans frontiers spokesperson Johanna Bouterse said: It is not enough to bring more guns. What these people need is more food and medicine. The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) with its newest member Cuba up front is sending a field hospital and emergency supplies.
Argentina Licenses and Bonds PMCs to combat Piracy In a surprise move in response to recent Paraguayan pirate attacks on private and commercial Argentine vessels on the Parana River, repeated attacks on Argentine shipping in global sea lanes, and the glaring failure of Argentina’s navy to respond to a bloody attack by West African pirates on the Dutch freighter ‘Stadiongracht’ in their own national waters, the Morales’ government announced Argentina’s formal withdrawal from the Declaration Respecting Maritime War (Declaration of Paris of 1856), reaffirmed the jus cogens stance the legal status of pirates as Hostis Humani generis, the formation of the International Tactical Response Contractor Bond and Licensing Board, and the establishment of a new Federal Court of Liability, Indemnity and Adjudication to handle any cases involving private military contractors (PMCs) licensed by Argentina and under Argentine sovereignty. Critics quickly decried the move as a virtual modern day revival of letters of marque and reprisal.
President Victor Morales defended the startling move stating that “The Paris treaty is hopelessly antiquated and the treaty’s assumption of a global sea power to keep the sea lanes secure is no longer a reality. The best efforts of today’s great powers are at best a pale regional reflection of the former global efforts afforded by the United States of America and its ‘17 Naval Standard’. Argentine citizens have a right to protect their property and their lives. With no adequate power protecting the sea lanes, international waters are legally terra nullius and Argentina is exercising its sovereign authority of adjudicative jurisdiction to answer this need.”
Several PMCs have applied for licensing and deposited bonds after proving citizenship or work visas for their involved employees. Empresa Líneas Marítimas Argentinas has confirmed that it is employing at least one licensed Argentine PMC to protect its shipping. Greystone Limited, through its affiliate Stateless Solutions, Inc. is reportedly considering relocating to Argentina and has secured a bond with the ITRCB&LB.
The United Kingdom criticized the Argentinian stance and the UK foreign secretary said" This will lead to greater insecurity at sea and among states and people. The British people and companies on the Falkland Islands feel threatened by these new Argentinian privateers. Therefore her Majesty´s government have sent two naval squadron to the South Atlantic to make sure British subjects can go about their business in peace."
A discussion was held in the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea. UK and Germany opposed the Argentinian move but the meeting was inconclusive.

Burma’s Aung San Sui Kyis Party Gains Power Naypyidaw, Burma: The long imprisoned now parliament member Aung San Suu Kiy´s party National League of Democracy (NLD) is in power and probably will be for as long as she lives, which some fear might shorten her life considerably. The NLD are working fast with a new constitution and for the betterment and freedom of the population. Critics say they are so focused on the political rights of the people they are forgetting the social and economic side of everyday life of the common citizen which is quite hard with Chinese tanks in every city. The Burmese economy is in shambles. Analysts are unsure if the NLD and the UN mission will be able to fill the power vacuum when the Chinese leave. Although everyone agrees they should leave. In an effort to placate political opponents who say the NLD are puppets to their Chinese masters, the NLD are asking the Chinese to not only leave the country but also want to close down the "String-of-pearl-port" in Sittwe by 2024 at the latest.
China has agreed to turn the Sittwe port over to Burma to use for anti-piracy and commercial ventures. In a ceremony today the Chinese port facilities at Sittwe have been turned over to Burma. Along with a pledge from China,"We the People Republic do not seek to conquer other nations. We also will not tolerate adventurism on Chinese soil. We wish peace, prosperity, and free trade unhampered by pirates and terrorists." Chinas offer of military equipment and training to Burma was accepted.
Japan Narrowly Avoids Bankruptcy Tokyo, Japan: The Premier Toshiro Takeda announced that by allying with the great Japanese Corporations a bankruptcy have been avoided for now. Critics say he is selling out and that this so called alliance looks a lot like the cooperation between state and industry conglomerates called Zaibatzu leading up to WWII. A huge sale of government assets across the board with Japan Post Holdings, a top 10 Fortune Global 500 company, at the front have been conducted. Expected have also been the sale of essential infrastructure such as hospitals, railway systems and other government installations. More controversial have been the contracts awarded to corporations for complete government services in selected prefectures. The prime minister says this will be tested in one prefecture in each region and if it goes well this program will be expanded. People in the selected prefectures responded with mostly skepticism but a few expressed the view that at least the corporations can´t be less efficient. The stock market reacted cautiously optimistic. Meanwhile tens of thousands of government employees were laid off and several law suits were filed against the government challenging the legality of the sale and the turning over government authority to private entities.
