A Dream for the Dead: Andreas Traunsberger, eccentric billionaire and leading tech guru, passed away at his home in Gothenburg on Tuesday, following a long battle with cancer. Mr Traunsberger was best known as the leading light in AI but he spent the majority of his life in attempts at cracking the practical Quantum Computer, which now seems further away than ever. He is survived by his 2 children and what is called his own ‘...uploaded consciousness’.
Traunsberger shocked the world with the announcement that he would, following his diagnosis, arrange to upload his consciousness using experimental technology being developed by his company. How successful this effort was is a hotly debated topic in the research and the ethics community. Regardless, his ostensible ‘consciousness’ and family are now engaged in a legal battle to ensure that his will is fulfilled - as Nordic law has not yet been updated to have any provisions to recognize an electronic consciousness as a person, meaning the Traunsberger Consciousness is unable to inherit any of Mr Traunsberger’s estate as dictated in his will. Whilst this legal battle continues to rumble on, Mr Traunsberger’s children have established the ‘Traunsberger Foundation for Electronic Life’ in their father’s honour to advocate for the legal and social rights of all future trans-human lifeforms and artificial intelligence's, and continue to pay for the large data centre on which the Traunsberger Consciousness is operating on.
