Our 40 year reunion was held the weekend of October 16 thru October 18, 2009. On October 16th, we had an informal get together at Papa's Pizzeria & Grill and later attended the homecoming football game. On October 17th, dinner was held in the Paddlewheel room on the Delta King in Old Sacramento. On October 18th, a picnic was held on at Gibson Ranch County Park.
An informal get together was held on Friday night at Papa's Pizzeria & Grill, a well known pizza parlor in Rio Linda. More than 40 of our classmates attended the get together. This event was a great ice breaker that let us get to know each other all over again.
This was also homecoming night and many of us that met at Papa's attended the football game. The game was held at the new Rio Linda Stadium located across the street from Rio Linda High. We were treated as special guests and were even part of the homecoming parade. And to our enjoyment the Knights defeated Consumnes Oaks 37-21 to remain undefeated for the season (6-0). What a way to relive Friday night football games under the lights.
The main event was held in the Paddlewheel room on the Delta King in Old Sacramento. The Delta King is a historic riverboat permanently moored on the Sacramento River. The Paddlewheel room was decorated in black and gold tablecloths and napkins in keeping with our school colors.
The doors opened at 6:00 pm with beverage service (cash bar) and hors d'oeuvres available before dinner. A dinner buffet was served around 7:00 pm followed by a brief reunion program. Dancing and celebrating followed with the reunion event ending at midnight. We couldn't have asked for a better night to have our reunion. The weather on the river was perfect. The music provided by Ray Marchese aka the CapCruisemaster was good and those that brought their dancing shoes were having a blast on the dance floor. In keeping with the homecoming theme, it was truly "A Knight Under the Stars."
A picnic was held on Sunday at Gibson Ranch County Park in Elverta. Cheryl (Mitcham) Call and Noralee (Mackey) Walter went early to make sure we were able to use Picnic Site 2C - Bronco. This site was next to the lake and restrooms and had 12 permanent tables, slated cover over the tables, two large barbeques and electricity.
With the help of donations, the hamburgers and hot dogs along with the condiments and paper plates and utensils were provided. Everyone brought a dish to share and there was more than enough food.Eddie Davis brought his propane BBQ and did all of the cooking. The meat was cooked to perfection. Thanks Eddie!!
