Jack Lee Snider passed away on Feb. 7, in the company of his family, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jack was born July 1, 1951, in Branson, Mo. As a boy, he moved with his family to Sacramento, where he grew up. Shortly after graduating from Rio Linda Senior High School, Jack enlisted with the U.S. Navy and served with the 3rd Marine Divisions as a corpsman in Okinawa, Japan.

After the Navy, Jack earned his construction contractor's license and even worked on the movie set of "Return of the Jedi."

Jack lived in Smith River for most of his adult life and proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter. In his last year, Jack enjoyed talking with family and friends mostly about his career, highway projects, fire fighting, military service and scouting with his sons.

Jack is survived by his two sons Jeremiah and Erick, brother Harley, sister Jeanette and numerous family members.

A small potluck gathering celebrating and honoring Jack's life will take place on Sunday, Feb. 20, at Veterans Memorial Hall, at 1 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Smith River Fire Protection District, P.O. Box 187, Smith River, CA 95567, in lieu of flowers or cards.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
