A Security Key is a physical USB device that is a secure and reliable way to identify a person during system login. The recommended security key is from Yubikey.
Although you insert it into a USB port, a USB Security Key is different from a USB thumb drive. For technical details about how a USB Security Key works, please see the Yubikey website.
To use a security key, you need to register it first with your identity profile. See the following:
Yes. It can also be used for other applications such as Facebook, etc.
Firefox supports USB Security Keys after a configuration setting is turned on:
Open Firefox.
Enter “about:config” in the Firefox browser address bar.
Scroll down to or search for “security.webauth.u2f”. Its value is probably “false”.
If the value is “false”, double-click the line. This action should change the value to “true”.
Restart Firefox.
The only USB security key that works consistently with Firefox are those from Yubikey. If your device doesn’t work, you need to use Chrome.
