Yearbook Syllabus
Congratulations on choosing such a fun and important class for the year! Our school Yearbook will be a great way to leave your mark on your glory years of High School! There are a few things you need to know about this Yearbook class:
You need to be on time for class.
It is important to use your teamwork skills as well as individual skills to make this yearbook shine!
When you choose a specific area of Yearbook, you need to start what you finish! Your grade will depend on this fact!
Many, many pictures will need to be taken, so be prepared to go to fun events and interesting school activities to get this done!
It is okay to choose what areas you want to work on, however, there are many different aspects of the Yearbook that need to be done! So, it is good to balance out the fun parts with the structured parts (ie, pictures of exciting events versus basic class pictures)
The computer aspect of this project will be a learning experience. We should all do our part to find ideas for cover art, backgrounds, style, and organization to better our communication for Yearbook!
Yearbook will be FUN FUN FUN! But, make sure you are doing your part so you can get an A!
This will look fantastic on your college applications and work resumes! Do a good job, and it will benefit you in your future!
If you are in Yearbook only one or two Trimesters, you are responsible for getting your pages done before the Trimesters are over! You will have lots of work time, so it shouldn't be difficult to complete your tasks! If you do not get your pages done because of laziness or lack of trying, you will not pass this class!
*Tips for photos: Highest resolution. If you have your own camera (not a phone camera), you should use it! When you are needing pictures for your pages, go to events, sports, classes, etc, and take them yourself! If you can't make it to an event, email or talk to students involved, parents, coaches! These are your responsibility!* STALK PEOPLE'S FACEBOOK PAGES!!!!! GOOD PICS ARE ALWAYS ON THERE!
The structure of the Yearbook will be similar to this...
1st Trimester:
We will create a list of events and pages of the Yearbook by looking through past yearbooks!
Organization of pages you want to work on, which events you want to take pictures for, etc. You will need to be open to subjects that you are not "all about". That way we can get a variety of ideas for each page.
Discussion of internet research for ideas of cover art, backgrounds, etc.
Discuss Herff Jones, our online template program.
CREATE THE YEARBOOK STAFF T-SHIRT! Everyone in Yearbook will have a T-shirt. We will design the front with group ideas, and the back will say "Yearbook Staff", and your name or nickname. This will be awesome, so come up with some good ideas!
Organize the selling of ads! Create new lists, get out in the community, get on the phone, get this party started!
Make sure all the ads have gotten sold.
Remind our friends and family to put in a purchase order for their Yearbook! Send emails, make posters, announcements, etc.
Learn to use the proper programs for page layout and pictures. Templates, and past ideas will be used as examples.
