Theology

Faith, Reason, Relationship

Shrine theology students are introduced to many significant concepts in the Catholic faith, including Old Testament, New Testament, liturgy and sacraments, events in Church history, and morality. In addition to studying theology as an academic subject, all students, both Catholic and non-Catholic, are encouraged to consider and deepen their own relationship with God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Every Spring our students get into the spirit of March Madness in a more academic but no less competitive sense in our Tournament of Saints. Any Shrine Catholic High School student is invited to select a saint and write a brief argumentative essay explaining why their saint is the best. Once qualifying essays are reviewed, the top 64 are placed in a bracket. Students write new essays arguing why their saint outshines their opponent's saint, and the stronger argument advances. Students win prizes along the way and at the end a Champion of Saints is crowned. This spring will be our 10th annual tournament

Eric Ruszala

"I pray that the Holy Spirit works through me to help lead my students to a deeper relationship with Christ and knowledge of His Church.  I also enjoy helping students grow academically as they work toward the next phases of their educational journey."

Marty Solomon

"My focus is to guide the students to a deeper understanding of their faith so they become confident with that knowledge to live out their faith in their personal lives and the culture at large."

Michelle Krysiak

"It is my hope to guide students in their relationships with Jesus and His church by deeply exploring the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Faith. We do this together in class, by understanding not only what the Church teaches, but where those teachings come from, and the reasons why following those teachings lead people in a life of authentic Christian joy and freedom."
